Options for moving to Taiwan

Starting a business and employing oneself

  • Invest 500,000 TWD to set up a limited company.
  • Foreigners must own over 1/3 of the total capital of the company.
  • Must register as company manager, can apply for working residency.
  • Initial will get 1~3 year residency, can be renewed 4 months before the deadline, and company must have 3,000,000 revenue in previous 12 months.
  • Spouse and minor children (under 18 years old) can apply for dependent residency.
  • Health Insurance: all families should join immediately.
  • Continuously resided in Taiwan for five years, having resided for an average of more than 183 days each year, may apply for permanent residency.
  • Example:
    • David invested NTD 600,000 to set up a limited company, he applies manager working residency for himself, and depend resident certificate for his wife and 2 children.
    • Jake and his Taiwanese partner each contributed NT$300,000 totaling NT$600,000 to set up a limited company. Jake applied for a company manager’s work permit and residence certificate.

Investment

  • Invest 200,000 USD to a new set up company or an existing company.
  • The investor must register as a company director.
  • Initial will get 1~3 year residency, can be renewed one month before the deadline.
  • Continually stay in Taiwan over 183 days a year for 5 years, may apply for permanent residency or naturalization.

Employment as a manager of limited company or branch

  • Qualification of foreigner：18 years old.
  • Qualification of the company：
    • at least 1/3 of capital is owned by foreigners.
    • company setup less than one year: Capital not less than TWD 500,000 TWD
    • company setup over one year: revenue over 3,000,000 TWD in pass 12 month or previous year.
    • Qualification of minimum salary: TWD 24,000 per month.
  • Spouse and minor children (under 18 years old) can apply for dependent residency.
  • Health Insurance: all families should join immediately..
  • Extend: Company must have 3,000,000 TWD revenue in last year or average in last 3 years. will get 24~36 months’ extension.

Employment as a technician

  • Get a technician/professional job, monthly salary must not less than TWD 47,971.
  • Qualification of employee: “Master degree” or  “Bachelor degree with 2 years related working experience after graduation” or “other degree with 5 years related working experience”.
  • Qualification of employer: 5,000,000 TWD company capital for those companies set up less than one year, 10,000,000 revenue for those companies set up over one year.
  • Initial will get 1~3 year residency, can be renewed 4 months before the deadline, and company must have 10,000,000 revenue in previous 12 months.
  • Spouse and minor children (under 18 years old) can apply for dependent residency.

Employment as a representative of an office

  • Set Up a Taiwan representative office for a foreign company.
  • Must register as a representative person, can apply for working residency.
  • Initial will get 1~3 year residency, can be renewed 4 months before the deadline, and office must provide performance documents.
  • Spouse and minor children (under 18 years old) can apply for dependent residency.
  • Health Insurance: all families should join immediately.

Gold Employment Card

  • For high-end talent/professional or who received 160,000 TWD monthly salaries.
  • Can freely work for any employer without other permission, even work for self.
  • Initial approval will get 1 ~ 3 years of residency every time. can apply for an extension of 1 ~ 3 years if qualified.
  • Spouse / minor children (under 18 years old) / handicapped children (over 18 years old) can apply for dependent residency.

  • Tax benefit with conditions for Gold Card Holder:
    • Conditions：
      • Has been approved for the first time to reside in Taiwan for the purpose of work.
      • Does not have Taiwan household registration in a fiscal year before 5 years.
      • Does not resident in Taiwan over 183 days in a fiscal year before 5 years.
      • Has engaged in professional work related to special expertise recognized by the relevant central competent authority in Taiwan.
      • Satay in Taiwan over 183 days in the fiscal year.
      • Professional working salary income from Taiwan employer over 3,000,000 TWD.
    • Tax Benefit：
      • The part of salary income over 3,000,000 TWD is 50% tax-free.
      • Overseas income is all tax-free.
      • Benefit for 5 years.

Entrepreneur Visa

  • Individuals or groups (with a maximum of three members) can apply for a two-year visa.
  • Initial will get 2-years residency, must set up a company.
  • Condition of extend: revenues exceeding NT$3 million, expenditure exceeding NT$1 million, or employing three full-time Taiwanese employees.
  • Continually stay in Taiwan over 183 days a year for 5 years, may apply for permanent residency or naturalization.

Employment-Seeking Visa

  • Criteria:
    • Employment experience, with an average monthly salary or remuneration over the past six months that is not lower than the amount,NT$47,971.
    • Graduated within the past year from any of the world’s top 500 universities as listed by the ROC Ministry of Education, and not yet employed.
  • Change to working visa after obtaining a formal job.
